About the author (1996)

Katie Gardner is a professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics, author of several books that include Global Immigrants, Local Life: Travel and Transformation in Rural Bangladesh (1995) and Contradicting Development (Pluto, 2012). David Lewis Professor from Social Plan and Advancement, Department of Social Plan, London School of Economics. He is the author of Bangladesh: Politics, Economics and Civil Society (2012) and co-editor of The Aid Effect (Pluto, 2005).
