Anthropology: Seeking Light and Beauty By Susan A Ross

By the wisdom and teaching experience of respected theologians, the theology series is firmly established for postgraduate studies and other ministerial training programs. Each of the six volumes (the Bible, Jesus, God, discipleship, anthropology and the church) deals with the careful restoration, evaluation, and interpretation of the Christian tradition. Comprehensive, in scope and accessible in writing, these volumes used together or independently, will stimulate rich theological thinking and discussion. More importantly, the series will create a passion for the next generation of theologians and church leaders.

What does this imply to be a human in the 21st century? Susan Ross discovers this question through the lens of human wishes: for God, liberty, knowledge, love, satisfaction, but likewise for power, consumer products, self-gratification, and money. Starting with the biblical enumeration of human desires, he continues to reflect on how ancient, medieval and modern thinkers confront the different ways in which humans seek to reach the world and God.

The 21st century brings new questions and ongoing challenges:

In an increasingly complex and fragmented world, can we talk about oneself?
How did feminism and new thinking about a sex change the ways we think about ourselves?
How can we preserve our humanity in the face of brutal human evil?
What do the results of science say about our uniqueness as human beings?

Anthropology: the search for light and beauty offers a path through many conflicting points of view of humanity, suggesting a more integrated way of life when we try to follow the example of Jesus.
